Enniscorthy is the rebel heartland of County Wexford from the 1798 battlefield sites of Oulart Hill and Vinegar Hill, to 1916 when Enniscorthy was the only town or city outside Dublin to be seized by the Irish Volunteers in the course of the Easter Rising. Step further back in time in Ferns, the ancient capital of Leinster, founded over 1,400 years ago by St Aidan and also home to King Diarmuid MacMurrough.

Eileen Gray, the internationally renowned designer, and one of the pioneers of the Art Deco and Modernism movements, was born here and grew up in Brownswood on the banks of the Slaney.
