Welcome to Wexford

The Viking town of Wexford is in the “heel” of the County surrounded by the lowlands of Wexford.  Mostly below sea level here you will find sloblands filled with Wildfowl, kilometres of sandy beaches and some of the finest dune systems in Ireland.

The Norman Way winds through the south of this area taking you through remote byroads and sleepy hamlets just waiting to be explored. The Eurovelo cycle route also follows this way.

With a strong tradition of crafts in the area, you will find over half the Craft Trail members located here,  as well as The Maker’s House  on the Main Street of Wexford town showcasing members works.

Zorro came from Wexford!

William Lamport (1615-1659), the son of wealthy Wexford merchant, was an adventurous young man who escaped a treason charge in England at age 13, was captured by pirates, before being sent to Mexico as a spy for Spain where his exploits became so legendary he is believed to be the inspiration for the character of Zorro!
