Hook Peninsula

A beacon in the distance, the first sight of land, Hook Head’s rocky shores and sandy coves have been the landing point for new arrivals to our shores down through the centuries including the Vikings and the Normans.

Heavily influenced by the Norman invaders, the peninsula has many heritage sites to explore by foot, by bicycle along the Norman Way or by car.  The low lying landscape makes for easy trails through this stretch of coastline filled with rugged beauty and tales of old.

Dollar Bay was where the Spanish dollars robbed from The Earl of Sandwich were landed by four Irish pirates?

Later arrested and hanged for their crime, the pirates skeletons were hung in gibbets on Dalkey Island as a warning to others.
